FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Monmouth County Freeholder Theodore J. Narozanick was elected Chairman of the North Jersey Transportation Planning Authority (NJTPA) at the agency's January 14th meeting. The NJTPA oversees the investment of nearly $1 billion in federal transportation dollars within a thirteen county region that includes counties across the state from Bergen to Ocean County.
"As Chairman I will seek to lead the Authority in addressing critical highway, bridge and mass transit needs. We must focus upon finding innovative solutions that will squeeze added capacity from road and rail networks, insure adequate maintenance and safety of all infrastructure and achieve strategic investments to prepare for the future." said Narozanick.
Narozanick has been a member of the NJTPA Board since 1995. He is past Chairman of the NJTPA Project Prioritization Committee and Certification Task Force.
In addition to the election of Chairman Narozanick, a new slate of officers was also elected. Freeholder Peter Palmer from Somerset County was elected First Vice Chair, Daniel P. Sullivan of Union County was elected Second Vice Chair, and Freeholder Cecilia G. Laureys of Morris County was elected Secretary. In accordance with NJTPA by-laws, Chairman Narozanick will appoint a Third Vice Chair at the next meeting of the NJTPA Board of Trustees.
The NJTPA Board consists of one local elected official from each of the 13 counties in Northern New Jersey, and the cities of Newark and Jersey City. The Board also includes a Governor's Representative, the Commissioner of the New Jersey Department of Transportation, the Executive Directors of NJ Transit and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, and a Citizen's Representative appointed by the Governor.
