NJTPA Subregion Profile:
Somerset County

Map of Somerset County

Description:
Somerset County is located in the heart of Central New Jersey. As one of the oldest American counties, Somerset's long history traces back to the colonial era and the Revolutionary War. Somerville is the county’s seat. The Somerset Patriots play independent league baseball at Commerce Bank Ball Park in Bridgewater. Several Fortune 500 Companies, including Bristol-Meyer-Squibb and divisions of Johnson & Johnson are situated here. The county has various transportation links to the rest of the region, including interstates 78 and 287 and the Raritan Valley and Peapack Gladstone passenger lines. The Somerset County Regional Center Vision Initiative is seeking a balance between urban and suburban development and rural countryside growth and diversity.
