Update of the Long-Range Transportation Plan
for Northern New Jersey

Visit EngageNorthJersey.com - Help us define the vision and shape the future for the North Jersey region. |
This webpage will be updated on a regular basis with information about the development of Plan 2040, the latest update to the NJTPA’s Regional Transportation Plan (RTP) for northern New Jersey. Check back for progress updates and how to participate.
The current plan, Plan 2035, was adopted in 2009. The updated plan is scheduled for adoption by fall 2013. It will lay out the vision for development of the transportation system through 2040 and serve as a transportation investment guide for the region.
Under federal law, Metropolitan Planning Organizations like the NJTPA are required to update their long range plans every four years as a condition for the receipt of federal transportation funding.
Preparation of Plan 2040 is being closely coordinated with the development of a Regional Plan for Sustainable Development (RPSD), funded with a $5 million grant from the US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Known as Together North Jersey, this effort is being carried out by a consortium of public, private and non-profit organizations including the NJTPA
The schedule of outreach events for both Plan 2040 and Together North Jersey will be posted on this page. You can also provide input through the EngageNorthJersey.com website.
