The NJTPA uses performance measures to track progress toward goals and understand the actual effects of transportation investments already completed. In preparing the 2030 long range plan, the NJTPA compiled a Regional Indicators Report (PDF) to evaluate the region’s progress. The report examined a
variety of key trends that have occurred in
northern New Jersey over the past ten to twenty years.
More than twenty quantitative indicators are presented throughout the report, which was summarized in the publication Are We There Yet?. This assessment is being updated in preparation for the next plan update in 2009.
A report on accomplishments during 2006-2007 in implementing the Regional Transportation Plan was issued in Jan. 2008 entitled Progress in Planning: Report on Implementing Access & Mobility 2030 (PDF file: 3.7 mb).
Such performance monitoring provides feedback to ensure that investments in the regional transportation system are having their desired impacts—improving mobility, lessening air pollution, promoting smart growth and other goals set by the NJTPA.
Measuring goal achievement specifically reflects on the
large societal issues spelled out in the NJTPA mission and elaborated on in the Capital Investment Strategy in the 2030 plan.
Information from the Regional Indicators Report and Are We There Yet? is also being used by NJTPA’s ongoing Strategy Evaluation effort to identify transportation needs of places throughout the region and evaluate strategies that address those needs.
