PART-TIME SAFE ROUTES TO SCHOOL PROGRAM ASSISTANT

Meadowlink Transportation Management Association is seeking a part-time person to assist the Safe Routes to School (SRTS) Regional Coordinator in administering the grant-funded SRTS program in the Meadowlink Region. Meadowlink, in partnership with the New Jersey of Transportation (NJDOT), has received federal funding through a Safe Routes to School (SRTS) grant to improve safety while encouraging children to walk and bicycle to school.
Job Duties:
- Outreach: The assistant will help contact identified schools in the Meadowlink Region, follow-up after initial inquiries, identify champions in the schools and set up meetings with key individuals to discuss SRTS programs.
- Training: The SRTS coordinator and assistant will be reaching out to schools to provide a variety of programs that encourage walking and bicycling to school. In addition to holding events for school children, the SRTS coordinators will “train the trainers” and provide necessary training tools so that schools or parent organizations can continue to present the programs. The assistant will be asked to set up programs and assist in their implementation as well as prepare training tools for distribution to schools and parent groups.
- Miscellaneous: Meadowlink is also involved in other bicycle and pedestrian efforts. The SRTS assistant may also be asked to participate in such programs including but not limited to Bike Share Pilot Programs, Complete Streets Efforts and other programs as necessary.
Education, Knowledge, and Skills Required or Desirable:
- Bachelor’s degree in planning or a related field preferred
- Use of Microsoft Office package — Word and Excel
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently
- Valid Driver’s license and ability to travel to many different locations in the Meadowlink region
Compensation:
20 hours/week, starting at $10/hour

TRAFFIC/TRANSPORTATION ENGINEER II
The New Jersey Meadowlands Commission (NJMC) seeks one or two contract engineers for the position of Transportation Engineer II, to assist with the implementation of a regional adaptive traffic signal control system funded in part by a Federal Highway Administration TIGER II grant. The contract position(s) will extend for a period of 18 months, with the possibility of 6-month extensions, and include a 35-hour work-week with no benefits.
The prime responsibilities of the position is to assist in the design of the Meadowlands Adaptive Signal System for Traffic Reduction (MASSTR), a regional adaptive traffic signal control system that integrates adaptive traffic signal control software, vehicle image detection, and wireless communication technology to optimize the operating efficiency of existing roadway infrastructure.
Duties and responsibilities will include traffic signal, electrical, and traffic control plan design; site and construction inspections; cost estimation; technical reviews of traffic and transportation analysis; and general engineering support. Proficiency in AutoCAD and Excel is required, as well as a knowledge of MUTCD, AASHTO, ITE, and traffic engineering publications. Experience using HCS and Synchro is preferred.
Qualified candidates must have a Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering with 2 to 6 years detailed experience in traffic and transportation engineering design (Master’s in Transportation Engineering and P.E. license is preferred). Applicants must be self-motivated and possess strong verbal, written, organizational, and analytical skills.
The NJMC is a state regulatory agency responsible for the land use management for a 32-square mile area covering portions of 14 municipalities in northern New Jersey.
