Dennis McNerney

Chairman - Bergen County Executive

Photo of Dennis McNerney Dennis McNerney was elected Bergen County Executive in 2002 after being twice elected to the Bergen County Board of Chosen Freeholders in 1998 and 2001.

County Executive McNerney became NJTPA Chairman in 2010.  He joined the NJTPA Board of Trustees in 2003, was elected to serve on its Executive Committee in 2006, and previously served as Chairman of the Project Prioritization Committee in 2008 and 2009.

During his tenure on the Freeholder Board, County Executive McNerney chaired the Parks and Public Works Committee, as well as the Budget and Finance Committee. In 2001, he served as Vice Chairman of the Freeholder Board and represented the Board as the liaison to the Solid Waste Advisory Council, the Legislature, and various education oversight committees.

County Executive McNerney has been a pioneer in the ongoing effort to preserve open space in Bergen County. Since the inception of the Open Space, Recreation, Farmland and Historic Trust Fund, he has helped the County acquire hundreds of acres of open space as well as approve nearly 60 park improvement projects.

Mr. McNerney worked as a municipal finance analyst prior to his election as County Executive.
